BUNIONS

BONE DEVIATION OF THE FIRST METATARSE (HALLUX VALGUS)

A bunion is caused when you have an instability of the inner toe which causes the big to cross closer to or even over the next toe. Many times this is being caused by a trauma to the toe. Many times you see individuals that have either stubbed their toe causing a fracture to the big toebut fail to have the proper treatment done to ensure that the toe does not have any permanent damage to it. When this happens the muscle and fascia to the inside of the toe begin to tighten and the toe begins to angle inward. The most common cause for a bunion being formed is when thebig toe is being pressed against or rubbed onto the outside of it causing to move inward toward the other toe.

There are several of the techniques of stretching that can be done to remedy this type of problem. Most commonly used will be big toe flexion and extension. You may also assist in rotation of the big toe and movement in different angles away from the other toes with the big toe.
