There are 5 adductor muscles (groin muscles). The adductor brevis, adductor longus and pectineus are known as the short adductors (pelvis to femur). The gracilis and adductor magnus are called the long adductors (pelvis to knee).
Function of the adductors is to pull the legs medially (to the midline). But they work as stabilizers and controllers of the movement of the legs in any directions when fast changes in direction occur.
The groin region is a depression between the thigh and abdominal region. Muscles pulled or torn in the front hip or adductor are is a groni strain. There may be trouble flexing or abducting the hip or a straight leg raise.
AIS stretching of the hip adductors, hip abductors, hip flexors and internal hip rotators is recommanded. Gentle strengthening in the water and then AIS hip strengthening as capable.
